4th FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Conference

Final chance to apply for travel grants and oral presentations!

Don’t miss your opportunity to join the 4th FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE International Molecular Biosciences PhD and Postdoc Conference, taking place in Glasgow (UK) on 10–12 September 2025 under the theme “Bridging minds – Interdisciplinary research for the future of life sciences.” This unique event—organized by and for PhD students and postdocs—will bring together up to 300 young researchers for three days of cutting-edge science, career development, and outreach.

Early bird registration has been extended, and the new deadline to apply for travel grants and submit abstracts for oral presentations is 30 June 2025.

Travel grants of GBP 300 are available for young members of FEBS Constituent Societies. Don’t miss this chance to present your work, boost your career prospects, and connect with peers from around the world.

The deadline for the FEBS Excellence Awards is fast approaching!

The Excellence Awards are intended to support research projects in the molecular life sciences from early-career group leaders. They are granted over three years and amount to €100,000. The FEBS Excellence Award is a support to be used exclusively to purchase small equipment (for a maximum of €15,000 in total) and/or consumables related to the project; salaries, stipendia and overheads cannot be paid for by the Award.

Applications deadline: 1 July 2025

FEBS Press is proud to serve the scientific community not only by publishing outstanding research, but also by engaging with scientists worldwide. Here are some of our newest projects.

Publishing Liaison Officers

We are excited to announce the launch of the Publishing Liaison Officer (PLO) role, a new initiative in FEBS Open Bio to bridge the gap between the journal and the scientific community. PLOs will serve as journal ambassadors and publishing advisors, and we are pleased to welcome our newly recruited PLOs to the team:

•             Johnathan Canton (University of Calgary, Canada)

•             Karla L.H. Feijs-Žaja (RWTH Aachen University, Germany)

•             Kyungtae Lim (Korea University, South Korea)

•             Shoichi Sakaguchi (Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Japan)

•             Tamara Saksida (University of Belgrade, Serbia)

•             Pierre Santucci (CNRS Aix-Marseille Université, France)

 Junior Ambassador Program

We are also pleased to introduce the new figure of FEBS Press Junior Ambassador, a member of the FEBS Junior Section who will gain insights into our journals and help promote them among peers. We welcome Ignazio Restivo (FEBS Journal Junior Ambassador), Vitória Baptista (FEBS Letters Junior Ambassador), Öykü Gönül Geyik (Molecular Oncology Junior Ambassador) and Patryk Frąckowiak (FEBS Open Bio Junior Ambassador). We are looking forward to a fruitful collaboration!

 Writing contest

FEBS Letters is further engaging with the community by celebrating women in science with a writing contest. Researchers at any career stage and of any gender are invited to write about their female role models, including prominent scientists, mentors, and other women who have inspired them in their academic careers. The author of the winning essay will win 500 Euros, and the article will be published in the journal. The deadline is 31st July 2025. We invite you to share this contest with your lab members and colleagues. Please see details on the contest here.

The Joint FEBS|EMBO Lecture Courses Special 2005–2025 Award

Since 2005 FEBS and EMBO have collaborated to co-fund the Joint FEBS|EMBO Lecture Courses. In 2025 both organizations celebrate the delivery of over 50 courses funded together and to mark the occasion, we arranged a Joint FEBS|EMBO Lecture Courses Special 2005–2025 Award. Organizers of joint course were invited to present an award certificate to an early-career participant giving a short talk or poster presentation from a project that shows the value of collaborative research.

We are delighted to introduce the awardees from the first two joint courses of 2025:

·       Indra Bekere, from Technical University of Munich, who attended the joint course “Cell biology of host–pathogen interactions” (Blois, France | 26–30 May 2025).

·       Darya Chernikova, from Institute of Science and Technology Austria, who attended the joint course “Physical Virology: across length scales” (Sant Feliu de Guixols, Spain | 1–6 June 2025).

PROBio-Africa Fellowships

Meet the PROBio-Africa award recipients, here.

PROBio-Africa (Promoting Research Opportunities for Biochemists in Africa) is a joint venture between FEBS, the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology  (IUBMB) and the Federation of African Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (FASBMB). The PROBio-Africa Fellowships Programme enables PhD students and postdoctoral fellows to spend up to six months (1-6 months) in the laboratory of a scientist in a FEBS country* who belongs to a FEBS Constituent Society.

Explore how AI is reshaping teaching and training at the FEBS–IUBMB Joint Education Session

Artificial intelligence is rapidly entering classrooms and laboratories—but how can we harness its potential in biosciences education and training?

This interactive session at the 49th FEBS Congress will bring together educators and early-career researchers to exchange practical experiences and discuss strategic approaches to AI integration. Combining theoretical perspectives with hands-on ideas, the session invites all educators—whether curious or experienced—to reflect, share, and connect on this timely topic.

From challenges to opportunities: Integrating AI in biosciences education

Tuesday July 8; 16:00–18:00, Hall 1
